Thanks for the advice. I purchased, as you suggested, a ZTE 4G modem from Telstra for $129 and pitched my useless 3G Ultimate. Installation of the 4G onto my Telstra 24 month plan was not so simple, so I paid $20 to telstra to do it for me; a wise move in retrospect.

Result so far is a regular download speed 6.5 Mbs and no drop outs. What a difference a day makes.
