Hi Tom,

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the advice. I purchased, as you suggested, a ZTE 4G modem from Telstra for $129 and pitched my useless 3G Ultimate. Installation of the 4G onto my Telstra 24 month plan was not so simple, so I paid $20 to telstra to do it for me; a wise move in retrospect.

Result so far is a regular download speed 6.5 Mbs and no drop outs. What a difference a day makes.

Hi Les,

You may have already done this but if not, Dump the Ultimate modem and get into a white ($139) ZTE 4G Telstra modem per paid, if you have post paid just insert the sim and check the box, have already activated.
, And if you set up a G-Spotter panel antenna, you should achieve downs of upto 60mbs from Plaza tower or the langtree ave tower, I had one and now a friend has it 17km out at yelta and gets 4G from the mildura tower.
I currently run the True Blue (MIMO) antenna as I need fast up-loads, getting well over 50mbs down and 15-20mbs up, from 6kms from plaza tower near the airport.
cheers

Delighted to hear it worked so well on the Gold Coast. Vodafone here is a joke - a reliable USB connection is long overdue from somebody. Some aspects of Telstra are annoying but it must be said their coverage is usually pretty good

I have done this already. I purchased the unit at the Gold Coast and I
operate from there and from Irymple Avenue.

I have added an antenna extension, from www.antennashop.com.au, which sits
on my house roof, in almost clear view of the nearest transmitter. My
regular download speed out of business hours is 3.5 Mbs. During business
hours this speed drops off markedly and drops out completely during busier
business hours.

The problem seems to be with Telstra signal not being able to handly the
traffic. This is rather strange as I am in the middle of a largely suburban
area.

The problem continues!!

Hi Les, The tech people say that data is normally very good in this street, and suggest that you head towards nearest Telstra store to have device checked.

I have a Telstra Ultimate modem operating at Irymple Avenue, Glen Iris, Vic. I am driven mad by continual dropouts. Can't wait to get rid of this rubbish service.

This is my second attempt to send this comment, the earlier attempt suffered a signal dropout as I sent it!!!

3G is useless during the day from our Mildura Vic Tower, I'd not buy one if you expect speed, they work well between midnight and 6am, isolated country towers have a faster speed as they are not overloaded like the metro / city towers.
