Telstra’s Pre-Paid Cap+… Even more value

Today we’re launching increased bonus data inclusions on the hugely popular Pre-Paid Cap+ offer; tripling the data at the $30 recharge level. That’s on top of the massive value customers already get on Pre-Paid Cap+.
For example, if you recharge $30 on the Pre-Paid Cap+, you will now get 150MB bonus data to use in Australia (up from the previous 50MB).
At $40, $60, and $100 recharge levels, customers now get double the data… That’s a whopping 1GB of data at the $100 recharge level.
| Recharge | TOTAL Credit (inc. Recharge Credit) |
Previous Data | New BONUS Data | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $30+ | $200 | 50MB | 150MB | 30 Days |
| $40+ | $300 | 150MB | 300MB | 30 Days |
| $60+ | $500 | 300MB | 600MB | 30 Days |
| $100+ | $1000 | 500MB | 1GB | 30 Days |
With more data at each recharge point, customers can check their email and browse the mobile internet even more – and make the most of it on one of Telstra’s hottest new mobiles telstra.com/shop.

What was the point of introducing this new Pre-Paid Cap+ offer when call charges are much more expensive than under other offers – so, effectively, there is no benefit to the end consumer?!
I call alot overseas can Telstra reduce the call rates to the Philippines, im currently paying 14cents a minute. Would be nice to better the rate to call home.
I totally agree with your comment. I am with telstra as I recieved a telstra handset as a gift, as did my partner. But the call charges and sms charges are rediculously overpriced compared to any other competitor. I understand that Telstra has a much better service and range, however if Telstra wishes to maintain competitiveness I feel they need to become competative with their rates and charges, and other bonuses Such as free calls/free time telstra to telstra.
No love for the long expiry (90 / 180 day) plans?
Why is this information not on http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/latestoffers/cap-plus.html ???
Great to see you putting more effort into the data allowance. I guess with the changes introduced by Vodafone last week, more data changes are due in the market.
cmon telstra. like seriously these have to be the worst cap plans ever. Get real and get serious and create some decent capped plans that are worth it. join the revolution and get real. Call rates were cheaper 10 yrs ago than they are now. on a 35 plan u had 18 cent call rates. :p
While an increase in data is welcome and I am sure appreciated by those on pre-paid accounts, there is much more that Telstra could have done if they ‘wanted’ to.
First and foremost is that Telstra has again showed it is ‘reactive’ and not ‘proactive’. These plan changes merely catch up to the other carriers (barely) and while they are better value compared to what they were, they are not that great as you can get the same or better with any of the other carriers. Granted however the coverage from Telstra is better.
Second, 30 day expiry, this is an outdated prepaid system, what is the point in having a prepaid account when it expired every month? This should be extended to 90 days minimum. Why go on pre-paid and not a cap plan if all you have is 30 days, I mean really all pre-paid is is another way to say a monthly plan.
I am constantly amazed and baffled at the same time as to why Telstra continue to market itself as it does like in this post by releasing what should be value added and market leading but are as said merely catching up to what others already provide.
Why does Telstra not want to LEAD the market, why must it fall way behind its competitors and then be dragged kicking and screaming to catch up, stop reacting to the market and be as big as you are (or can be) and lead it.

Nice little addition. Would like to see the plus packs incsease in value too though. Data quantity still falls behind other carriers like virgin 1gb on a $19 recharge or optus with their ‘free’ facebook, twitter, etc.
Something is better than nothing though.
You just can’t please some people seriously. Give them a bottle of coke and they complain its not pepsi. Give them extra data for free and they whinge about call rates.
Good work telstra.
nice but i’d prefer more bonus credit than data!
i think these are great prices and value. now i can ensure my little brother has reception wherever he goes, whilst at the same time can be free to browse the net, and make handfuls of calls! visiting a t shop tonight to change him over from the network thats normally off…
as usual bigpond wireless is left in the dark.
not to sound cliche but “one step forward, two steps backwards”.
I agree, but watch out for the 18th I am told.
Though I am not expecting much as all Telstra will do at most is catch up with other ISP’s. Telstra does not know how to lead and do better.

I love that we’ve sparked your interest from these changes to our Cap + offer and, rest assured, I’m as passionate as you are about making sure our Pre-Paid offers deliver you the greatest value on Australia’s number one network.
In fact, I’ve spent a lot of time working closely with our customers and my team on how we can best achieve this. For example, we know you guys love using the mobile internet for checking your email, browsing, and connecting with friends. We also know a greater number of you are now buying smartphones and want to make the most of their capabilities without paying more. This is why we’re tripling the data at the $30 recharge level and doubling the data included in our other three plans.
However, we also believe that staying in touch with your needs is critical, so keep your comments coming and we’ll keep listening!
Well done Telstra!!! Keep it up
Thanks for the reply Rebekah, can I ask however why the expiry is left to 30 days? Surely if you want to provide more value to your customers you could have increased the expiry to 60, or even better 90 days.

new optus prepaid “dollar dazzlers” are out. Sorry Telstra but Optus beat you to my front door this time!
I don’t expect Telstra to match it,
I can only assume from this that Telstra is trying to discourage customers from signing up to post-paid cap plans that lock them in for up to two years. Imagine how frustrating it is to see better value i.e. more included calls and more data on the $30 prepaid plan (see above for details), which doesn’t have to be paid unless the customer wants to top up, and doesn’t lock them into a 2 year contract vs the $29 post-paid cap plan that offers only $150 included calls and 30MB included data, and locks them in to the relationship for 2 years. Where’s the reward for loyalty Telstra?
Hi guys,
Re the 30+ prepaid cap, does any bonus credit not used in the previous month rollover into the next month or is it lost completely?
How do u check how much bonus credit u have left?
For starters, it’s strange that the recharge amount should ever expire – ‘long life’ is rediculous, all plans should have a unlimited expiry or at least that of the long life plan. You recharge an amount on pre-paid, and that is what it should be; the amount you have until it’s used.
It’s the “Bonus Cap” credits that should be marketed as “rolling over”. Why don’t they roll over? It’s silly that you want to market that you rollover the recharge amount, as if it’s some sort of exciting benefit if you recharge within x time.
Really keeping the account credit is not that much of a big deal as it is probably spent every month anyway on data pack or something. So there’s just nothing holding customers in every month.
The only way that I’d understand expiring the recharge amount at what ever timeframe, is if you also allow users to keep the bonus credits along with the recharge amount when recharging before the expiry. At least there’s something more enticing there for customers other then telling them they can keep the credit they already paid for.
Surely you’ll get more people consistanly recharging every month if they can keep all the bonuses. Even if they have more then they would ever need, they don’t want to lose all they have saved up, so they keep up with recharging. Users otherwise will slack off on months when they don’t need the phone as much, say going overseas on a holiday, there’s no need for them to recharge for the month/s they are away.
Try reharge when your date or credit expires, No way as you cannot recharge andy which way as you are not allowed on the network surely you can be allowed to the recharge link regadless of the account. I would hate to working remotely on my laptop and run out in the middle of an import download. then the only way is to call in but even then it call in number treats you like an idiot as unless you cheat around the press this press that it drops you out. Come on Telstra treat us the customer as important, after all the NBN will by their own choice take whoever they want on the non mobile network.
I tried to call 1258880 three times today regarding my prepaid mobile plan, I finally got thought to your “international call centre” after spending 1/2 hour on the phone and being unable to understand (Jenny) I’m still no closer to an answer for my questions. I recharged my service with $50.00 thinking that I would receive $1000.00 worth of calls, what I didn’t know is that I should have called first to change my plan. When questioning “jenny” on some rates for my current plan she seemed unsure of the details but did provided me the new rates on the Telstra encore plan, I was after the call rates for my current plan. Is there anyway I can find the current rates I am on or contact a call centre in Australia for assistance?
