Hi, I’m Karl and I work in the Telstra Sponsorship team looking after the 2 Footy codes, AFL & NRL.

This week Melb is buzzing with AFL Grand Final Fever and the centre of all the excitement is the Telstra Fever Pitch studio at Federation Square.

Telstra is helping fans connect with their passion for AFL with so much to do and see at Fever Pitch.

At the live studio you can be part of the audience as the stars field questions from our host Catherine Ellis who interviews current and past AFL superstars. These interviews get recorded live and are played on afl.com.au as well as AFL TV on T-Hub®.

You can also send your team a t message of support from our Hero Message station and see your name in lights on the big screen at Fed Square.

There’s lot more to keep you and the kids entertained including autograph signing, get your photo taken by our street team, face painting, free giveaways!

Come on down to Fed Square and pay us a visit.

Which team do you reckon will win the Final?

The All Blacks already won the Bledisloe Cup – what other sporting event matters this year…?

In all seriousness, as a recent arrival from the shaky isles, the passion, and in some cases sheer fanaticism, of AFL supporters is a wonder to behold – it’s almost like there’s no other sporting code that exists outside of their AFL bubble. And I don’t doubt it’s a benefit from AFL having such a simple season structure and only having a very minor international component to distract local supporters. It’s something that rugby’s powerbrokers could learn from.

As for the Grand Final – I’m vacating Melbourne for the weekend, but I’m putting my money on Collingwood. The way they absolutely stomped on Geelong in the last weekend oozed of a team that’s overcome its finals demons and is ready to take the final step.

However as a Wellington rugby fan I should know better. Apparantly there are plenty of similarities between the fates of Collingwood and Wellington

As a die hard AFL supporter living in the middle of rugby league land up here in FNQ, I sometimes wonder just how the NRL survives. The fact that 20k supporters attending a regular season match is almost a sellout, whereas that would be a poor turnout at Aurora Stradium in Tassie for an AFL home and away match, leaves me muddled as to how they make enough money to pay their players, let alone breach the salary cap by millions lol. Like most AFL supporters, I DON”T want Collingwood to win, but hey, if they are the better team on the day, then so be it!!

As a Melburnian who’s a die hard NRL supporter I’d swap places with you in a flash, Rick (Telstra Employee) ;)

NRL have to get it together as far as better grounds, better attendance, to see the world’s best athletes / game.
Such an electric spectacle, huge T.V. coverage overseas, which is were Big money draws the best players.

I find AFL dead boring ! Can’t see why it attracts so many fans although the AFL are certainly great businessmen ! They’ve spent big money drawing some top NRL players also.

Collingwood (?), wow wasn’t that just such an exciting second Grand Final ?
