We’ve launched a new Pre-Paid cap

blog-new-pre-paid-cap-banner

I’m a big cooking fan and I think it’s fair to say that for some of us, choosing a mobile offer can seem tougher than battling it out on Masterchef!

With so many options and so little spare time, I’m one of the first to put my hand up and say – why can’t it just be a little bit simpler?

We want to deliver even more value to our loyal Telstra Pre-Paid customers, and we’re pretty sure we’ve hit the nail on the head with our new Telstra Pre-Paid Cap+ offer.

In a nutshell, we’re excited about the new Telstra Pre-Paid Cap+ offer for a few reasons…

  1. We’ve designed a Pre-Paid cap that’s not only easy to understand, but also offers great value;
  2. We’ve kept things simple – no worrying about the network your friends are on;
  3. It’s flexible, and allows you to keep control of your spending each month;
  4. We’ve kept rollover credits, so recharge within 30 days and any unused recharge credit rolls over for another 30 days; and
  5. You can enjoy Telstra’s new Tribe® service, which offers FREE Facebook, Twitter and MySpace access within Australia.

Here’s what you get – as you can see, the more you recharge the better the value

We know our customers want and deserve good value for both national and international calling, so we’re shaking things up with this new offer. For example –

Telstra pre paid capPlus, what I really love is the fact you can still rollover your unused credit. For example, recharge within 30 days, and any unused recharge credit automatically rolls over for another 30 days. And, you get to use any unused bonus credit and bonus data for 30 days from your recharge or until you change your offer.

If you want to take up one of our new Telstra Pre-Paid Cap+ offers or just want to know more about them before you decide, check-out Telstra Pre-Paid offers or drop me a line in the comments section below.

I’ll be sure to get back to you… espcially now that Masterchef’s all done and dusted!

Hello one and all,I thought I was the only one that is totally confussed with telstra, why do they have call centre’s off shore, all to do with the $.In the past week i have called O.S. several times, spent hours trying to understand a sales person that has no idea what I need to know as a customer. I think telstra really need to look at how the customer is served. or don’t they care, i had two of the O.S. consultants hang up in my ear, another left me hanging on for twenty minutes, then i hung up, really telstra wake up i have been with your company for over fourty years, and are thinking of changing my carrier. Your greed and lack of service will be your decline.

    • Brendan O'Keefe [T-EX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hello Kerrie. I can see you’ve had a less that positive Telstra experience lately. I’d like to do what I can to change that. Please use this online form to forward me your account and contact details so I can have a local representative give you a call.

hi, i have recently changed to the cap+ plan just wondering is standard national calls include mobile phone numbers to any phone company mobile numbers. i was normally on the talk + text offer i recharged $30 then changed to cap+ plan. when i called mobile numbers my $30 credit went down and my bonus offer showed 100 mins free calls and free text messages just wondering with the cap+ does it include discounts on calling any aus mobile numbers or do i have to recharge again for the cap+ plan to work cause i was on the tak+text when i initially recharged

    • Brendan O'Keefe [T-EX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hi Scott, Please give the mobile service team a call on 13 2200 to find out the details. Brendan

    Hi Rebekah,
Good effort trying to create a simple product like Pre-Paid Cap+ but I’m sad to say you missed the proverbial nail by ‘that much’! The problem is the 30 day expiry when the majority of months (7) have 31 days. This makes it impossible to really simplify your pre-paid mobile by scheduling an automatic recharge because 7 times a year you would lose your remaining credit. When I queried this by e-mail, I received a ridiculous response that was anything but simple (Ref:110514-001709 Incident 110514-000235) which you should read. The expiry should ideally be a calendar month.

    • Kate says:

Hi Brendan or Rebekah, I’m still waiting for a response to my query. It shouldn’t take ayear to figure out!

  4. Simone Rudov says:

Can I use my bonus credit on cap+ to buy pluspacks, essentially browser packs. So if I get 350$ bonus credit I can buy browserpacks rather than paying as I go rate of data. I am on this offer for my prePaid plus mobile broadband. So I could buy 5 $59 browse packs and 1$49 browse pack to limit my number for Internet downloads. My broadband is

  5. Mark says:

How do I get to access my Mobile broadband bonus credit.
I thought it would simply just go on to use the Bonus credit when my pre-paid ran out. But no it cit me of and now i see in my balance the Bonus Credit but it wont use it. Why Not?

  6. Kate says:

Has ‘Brendan – (Your Community Manager)’ left Telstra? He no longer responds to comments. And Rebekah is obviously glued to Master Chef again so she won’t be responding for some time yet!

Great plans and very good value. The credit options and rechaege process is difficult to understand and follow but I have found the My Account site great to help me keep track of my balances. However for the past week the prepaid section of the my account site has been down and I have a lot of trouble understanding service centre staff from overseas. Poor service from Telstra and I cannot believe they can’t get their act together, no other business I know of has a website down for this long. Once again poor service from Telstra:

  8. Natasha says:

HI Brendan – I know this thread is a bit old but am hoping you are still around? With my pre paid service, if I recharge within 30 days, it says the remaining credit will rollover to the new expiry date but what about my bonus data and txt messages (I recharge $40 each time) – does this roll over too or does it get forfeited regardless of whether you recharge before 30 days is up? Cheers, Tash.

  9. alison says:

i recently recharged my prepaid mobile with $30 and changed my offer to talk & text. within minutes of using the internet i received a text from telstra to inform me that my credit balance was $0.01. when i checked my account via bigpond it says i have no credit but when i click on the link to bonuses & plus packs it says i have $219.71 bonuscap 404.079 bonusdata and that it expires on 19/09/2011. when i try to call or text someone i cant or when i try to use the internet i cant. how do you use your bonus credit when your recharge credit balance runs out

  10. Janette says:

Hi i was just looking at swapping from an Optus cap to Telstra and wondered if this offer is going to expire at all or whether it is ongoing?

  11. Nick says:

I’ve just switched over to this plan and so far so good. A couple of questions though. Will I get reminders when it’s time to recharge or do I have to monitor this myself. Secondly, is there any disadvantage to recharging early? If I recharge on day 15 of a given month do the new credits expire 30 days after that day or 30 days after the end of the current month (ie, after 45 days)? Sorry if these are silly questions but I’m new to prepaid.

  12. Ian says:

I have the same question as Nick… If I recharge my cap plan due to one element what happens to the outstanding balances and bonuses..?

  13. Nick says:

One question answered – I’m getting plenty of SMS reminders of my impending expiry date. I’d still like to know of there’s any disadvantage to recharging a few days early just to be safe. I’m not in danger of exhausting any element of the cap.

  14. PJ says:

Prepaid nights 6pm to midnight expires on 31st october… If there’s no longer free night calls, shall I be going to vodafone prepaid has the infinite plans $50 for unlimited calls/sms all day/night on 30 days. Should Telstra have the same option like vodafone. It’s no good. Telstra is the best but where is free cap nights on prepaid?

  15. Courteney says:

im on cap + but now they have the encore and my text n calls from 6-6 is costing me are they the same thing or different ….

    • Ryan says:

I know right!? WTF is going on? I can’t find info anywhere on the telstra site giving me the call rates of the cap+ plan (except for an old blog entry). My phone says I’m on the cap+ plan. So what are my call rates? How much credit do I get in my cap? How much data? Any bonusus? If so, what are they?

This is ridiculous telstra. Here I am wasting my time trying to figure out something simple like how much data I get & because of incompetence on your part, I am unable to do that. Thanks for the headache.

  16. Martin says:

I just moved over to telstra pre-paid and I too haven’t had much joy with the call centre…
I’m on the pre-paid cap encore..
all i want to do is able to check my balance, the whole balance…
    Credit,Bonus Credit and Data..
I can log in on the computer and check it, but through the big pond app i just comes up with the recharge amount and that’s it..
    What good is that…
I’ve rung the pre-paid service number and had the same problem as everyone else by the looks off it, “trying to understand them”
I went into the telstra shop and they said they can’t help with checking the total balance…
I can’t see why it’s so hard as i was with optus for years on a pre-paid service which has an app that you can easily check your Whole balance recharge from and is updated straight away..
Telstra being a major player should have a similar app…
I Would like it if you have any suggestions, or can resolve this problem….
I’ve been with testra only a couple of weeks now and are quite disheartened with the whole experience, if i can’t help me with this problem I’m quite happy to drop this service, and put it down as a bad mistake….

  17. Pooley says:

    Ryan,

I am in a somewhat similar situation though my comments never get printed. How much is an extra gig of data if I go over? I can get 10gig for $10.00 from my internet supplier. How much are my calls ? about a cent a minute on skype but no cost mentioned in my plan. I can’t wait to get off my plan so I can get some decent deals from my phone supplier, either telstra or another with the best deal. Free from 8 to 8 not for us locked in to a bloody plan, sorry plan users, you don’t count.

  18. Evan says:

Just changed from pre paid cap+ to encore and “all i want to do is able to check my balance, the whole balance…
Credit,Bonus Credit and Data..” Will telstra be sorting this out?. If not this’ll be the last straw and I’ll be off to a post paid plan with optus.

  19. Nate says:

How do I check on how much I recharged? Also, now that Telstra has changed the to Cap Oncore, I cant tell what I’m supposed to get for my recharge?

  20. John says:

Hi, got the regular texts reminding me to recharge. After doing this I checked your site to see whether I should shift to another offer. I’m currently on the Cap+ Offer and what is clear is that I can only move to another offer and not back. As I didn’t keep details on the Cap+ Offer and can’t find anything on your site how do I do a comparison to assist me in making a decision?

  21. Natasha says:

Hmmmm, gotta say Im impressed. You can now check your WHOLE balance including bonus packs like you used to a few months back (god I hated not having that, ringing 1258888 was annoying!!) but also they now charge by kb’s rather than mb’s – YES!!

Thanks Telstra, good to see a positive change :-) ))))

  22. Sophia says:

how do u get this offer on ur phone

  23. ROXY says:

    HI is this still avail?

  24. Bob says:

I signed a 2 year contract on Cap + $30, which gave me free night access to standard local and international calls. TonightI rang telstra because the free night calls seemed to have stopped. The telstra person (for once I got someone who could speak intelligible english!) said there were never free night international calls (but i have that in writing) and that these were coming from my bonus packs. He ‘gave’ me $20 bec ause there had been ‘a small misunderstanding on both our parts’ and ‘reinstated my bonus packs’ He also said i was now on Encore, but I signed a 2 year contract to be on cap + 30. …

How could my plan be changed when i have a written 2 year contract?

    • Brendan - [Your Community Manager] says:

Hi Bob, I’d be happy to have a local specialist team look at this for you and give you a call. Please use this form to send me your account and contact details. Brendan

  25. Bob says:

OK thanks Brendan, all just about fixed on phone. I will visit the local telstra shop to find out what 2 year contract i signed, because cap 30 + was pre-paid and you have no record of me being on a plan. I will let you know what i find out!

  26. Shaun says:

I just bought a Telstra $2 sim, an i put it in my portable wifi, went 2 the telstra site on my ipad an bought $60 recharge an it gave me 2gb of data, over $900 of cap credit, $50 of Dollar Bonus (which didnt show up straight away) an $60 credit remaining (awesome BTW)… An no talk n text. Just wondering if when i click on buy talk n text or internet browser plus pack does it come off my credit remaning or the Dollar Bonus???

    • Shaun says:

I would assume it does but my first $60 recharge i went over the 2gb cap data (ipads fault lol) and it took all my credit remaning, so im abit worried. But i never seen the Dollar Bonus the first time i recharged, so maby thats why. It showed up the second time i recharged… But i bought $60 of credit shouldnt i get $60 Dollar Bonus…
I know its alot to take in TIA.

  27. Shaun says:

Im on the cap oncore, sorry if these are dumb questions. I only put my sim in my telstra elite wifi because i have a old nokia im using atm, i relise now that you can access this info off ur phone, so sorry for the confusion. But its cheaper for me to buy credit for my phone and use the internet usage on the wifi device. So all i realy want to know is, if i recharge $60 i get $60 in credit and $50 of Dollar Bonus, then if i purchase a browseplus59 (4gb) does it come off the credit or the Dollar Bonus?
