We’ve launched a new Pre-Paid cap

blog-new-pre-paid-cap-banner

I’m a big cooking fan and I think it’s fair to say that for some of us, choosing a mobile offer can seem tougher than battling it out on Masterchef!

With so many options and so little spare time, I’m one of the first to put my hand up and say – why can’t it just be a little bit simpler?

We want to deliver even more value to our loyal Telstra Pre-Paid customers, and we’re pretty sure we’ve hit the nail on the head with our new Telstra Pre-Paid Cap+ offer.

In a nutshell, we’re excited about the new Telstra Pre-Paid Cap+ offer for a few reasons…

  1. We’ve designed a Pre-Paid cap that’s not only easy to understand, but also offers great value;
  2. We’ve kept things simple – no worrying about the network your friends are on;
  3. It’s flexible, and allows you to keep control of your spending each month;
  4. We’ve kept rollover credits, so recharge within 30 days and any unused recharge credit rolls over for another 30 days; and
  5. You can enjoy Telstra’s new Tribe® service, which offers FREE Facebook, Twitter and MySpace access within Australia.

Here’s what you get – as you can see, the more you recharge the better the value

We know our customers want and deserve good value for both national and international calling, so we’re shaking things up with this new offer. For example –

Telstra pre paid capPlus, what I really love is the fact you can still rollover your unused credit. For example, recharge within 30 days, and any unused recharge credit automatically rolls over for another 30 days. And, you get to use any unused bonus credit and bonus data for 30 days from your recharge or until you change your offer.

If you want to take up one of our new Telstra Pre-Paid Cap+ offers or just want to know more about them before you decide, check-out Telstra Pre-Paid offers or drop me a line in the comments section below.

I’ll be sure to get back to you… espcially now that Masterchef’s all done and dusted!

Pity you only want to “deliver even more value to our loyal Telstra Pre-Paid customers” but recently recontracted customers of 15+ years of loyalty get shafted. Poor form Telstra poor form

    • Pooley says:

Yep, pretty normal for Telstra, lock you into a 24 month contract then forget you.
Same with bigpond, lock you up and throw away the key.

  2. Jock Reby says:

These look interesting, particularly with the rollover credits.

However I cannot see the rate per minute listed anywhere on the Prepaid Cap+ page?

  3. Stephen says:

Just to clarify, are you saying recharge credit, bonus credit AND bonus data roll over if I recharge within 30 days?

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hello Stephen. Your recharge credit rolls over if you recharge within 30 days.

    • Tegan says:

so the bonus credit doesn’t rollover, only the actual credit you purchase? Is this correct?
So if you pay $30 and you still have your actual $30 left, you keep that, but not the bonus credit?
      And does data rollover?

    • Hi Tegan. I checked for you and the credit does rollover (providing you recharge before the expiry date), however the bonus credit and bonus data does not rollover.

  4. kazilla says:

pay $30 for $170 of calls & i can call OS!! that’s awesome.

  5. Steffen says:

How does one sign up to the roll-over feature? I had a look at the Pre-Paid Cap+ page and it mentions 30 day expiry but no roll-ver: http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/latestoffers/cap-plus.html

  6. Corey (Telstra) says:

    Hey Guys,

Jock Reby, I’m not 100% sure but I think the below link will answer your question about call rates on pre-paid mobiles.

    http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/callrates/standard.html

    Thanks Corey

  7. Scott [Telstra Staff] says:

[Jock Reby] – The standard rates apply to this offer: http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/callrates/standard.html

with the exception of SMS which is $0.29 per 160 Characters.

  8. Kevin says:

Is there a limit to the amount of total Data credit you can accumulate when rolling over each month?

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Howdy Kevin, Only your recharge credit can be rolled over. Your total data credit will expire at 30 days or when you change your offer.

  9. Joel says:

Looks good! Is it possible to schedule the recharge at 30 day intervals, rather than calendar months, to ensure that rollover happens, or does it need to be done manually?

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hi Joel. Unfortunately, recharges can only be scheduled as a calendar month not at a 30 day interval, so you will need to manually recharge every 30 days, however to make this easier, you can store your credit/debit cards for future use.

  10. Joanne says:

    Folks,

I’m not seeing anywhere that shows that OS voice calls are included in this cap. Is this correct? Only OS txt’s will be covered?
    Thanks

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

This is correct both OS calls and text are included, Cheers, Brendan.

  11. Michael says:

Rebekah, just to echo Stephen and Steffen’s comments: where is the reference to rollover credits in the Telstra Pre-Paid pages please? Thanks!

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hi Michael, here’s a response for you. Based on our customers questions and feedback we will be updating T.com to make this clear. To confirm, only your recharge credit can be rolled over if you recharge again within 30 days. Your total Bonuse Credit and data credit will expire at 30 days or when you change your offer. Cheers, Brendan.

  12. RANIA says:

IS there any free or cheaper telstra to telstra calls???

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

RANIA, We have a range of pre-paid offers. For free or cheaper telstra to telstra calls check out our Talk&Text+ offer of Talk Time offer online here

  13. Stephen says:

Thanks Brendan. I’m aware of that. However, Rebekah’s post suggests that bonus credit AND bonus data roll over as well.

Just to quote: “For example, recharge within 30 days, and any unused recharge credit automatically rolls over for another 30 days. And, you get to use any unused bonus credit and bonus data for 30 days from your recharge or until you change your offer.”

Can we get clarification on this please?

  14. Kate Nylen says:

Can u pls tell me if i can use this when i travel to the US in September so i can call back to OZ.. Ta :)

  15. edwron says:

Come off it Brendan I thought you lot were trying to improve customer relationships and you go and change the rules yet again!

  16. Tracy [Telstra Employee] says:

Awesome PrePaid option, especially for kids!

How do I set up point 5 below?

    5. You can enjoy Telstra’s new Tribe® service, which offers FREE Facebook, Twitter and MySpace access within Australia.

    Thanks

  17. Barry says:

I’ve just today taken out a PrePaid Cap+ plan (still waiting for it to come over from Virgin). This Rollover stuff is totally news to me. Sorry if I’m dumb but can you explain it a little plainer please? What do you mean “recharge credit will rollover if before 30 days ..” etc? I don’t understand what that is!

  18. David says:

Hi, so with this you get something like $30, plus $200 and 30 (or 50) mb of data right? can the credit be used with plus packs or is just for messages and calling?

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

David, you can use your $30 to spend on whatever you like such as the latest ringtones, caller tones, games, Mobile Foxtel from Telstra and Plus Packs. Your $170 Bonus credit can be used on standard calls and texts to Australian and International numbers while you are in Australia.

  19. Mootus says:

    Hi Rebekah,

I changed my prepaid offer to Cap+ yesterday and recharged $40 after the offer was confirmed on my account.

I have my bonus data showing up on my account, but my bonus credit is not appearing. It just shows my account balance of ~$40.

Does it take a few days for the bonus credit to be applied? Anyone else having this problem?

[I would call the "support" line (125 8880) but last time I did so I spoke to 15 people (no lie) across several departments and then the call unceremoniously disconnected after 49 minutes(!).]

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hello Mootus. Thanks for the feedback…we are experiencing some technical issues where your bonus credit is not appearing when you check your balance using My Pre-Paid on your mobile. This should be fixed in the next day but in the interim, you can check your balance by calling 1258888 from your Telstra Pre-Paid mobile. Cheers, Brendan.

  20. Manny says:

Hi, my mobile contract has expired, wanting to know if i can bring my current number over and be changed to the new prepaid-cap???

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hi Manny, Yes you can…Remember to get the benefits of the Cap+ offer, you will need to select the Cap+ offer and then recharge $30 or more. Brendan.

  21. Mootus says:

Ok, so my bonus credit has now shown up on my account at Telstra.com, though it isn’t appearing on “My Prepaid” via Bigpond on my mobile.

Calls made following activiation of the Cap+ option show as $0.00 and “BonusCap” as payment source.

    That’s a relief.

  22. David says:

And how much internet data do l get? Can l change my cap back latter if i decide i dont like it?

  23. Brendan [Telstra Employee] says:

What is the best offer I can take up for a teenage daughter where I have the ability to only nominate certain numbers she can call out for here phone. For example Mum and Dad’s. It’s only for a safety for here to use it.

  24. Stephen says:

Brendan, any updates with this? I have switched over to the Cap+ offer but still cannot view my bonus credit using My Pre-Paid.

Hi Stephen. I’ve just asked on your behalf. Let you know when I hear back. Brendan.

  25. krangsquared says:

Why do users have to go through Tribe to get free Facebook access? There’s so much functionality it doesn’t have, and will always be lacking compared to simply going through the FB interface. Why not do what Optus are doing and just allow free access to anything under *.facebook.com? Much simpler for everyone and gives a better user experience.

  26. David says:

    absolutely 100% agreed with krangsquared…

  27. Arthur K says:

Great work guys. Plans look very competitive and should do well. I have updated my site with your new caps.

  28. lil_possum23 says:

Hey all, u can get free facebook on ur prepaid mobile by using 0.facebook.com. Make sure that is a zero not the letter o

  29. krangsquared says:

@lil_possum23 it’s only free for certain mobile providers that have deals with FB. Australia is not one of the countries listed in most posts I’ve seen, but zdnet had a blog entry about it as well, who said Telstra would be… can someone from Telstra confirm or deny this? http://www.zdnet.com.au/telstra-a-part-of-free-facebook-scheme-339303313.htm

  30. Blaise84 says:

A query: if i am on the say $60 pre-paid+ and i get the 300MB data, can i add to this with say, a $10 browsing pack to boost up my data??

  31. Jenza says:

Text messages (SMS) per 160 character message sent to each recipient, to any network in Australia (29c) – Sorry but what does this mean?? I dont exactly get what 160 character message mean.
    Can someone plz.. explain

  32. David says:

    @ Jenza

It means that every message with 160 characters is 29 cents

  33. Emily says:

I heard that if you have $30 credit but use all your credits to buy the $20 + $10 data packs, you will not be able to browse the internet because your credit balance is $0.

    Is this true?

  34. Alex says:

    My experience:

Initially my first recharge was $30, about 25 days ago.
Today, I’ve just recharged $40 and my credit rolled over, however the Bonus Cap component didn’t.

Now I have 2 Bonus Cap: one expiring in 3 days and another in 30 days.

    Is this correct?

If it is the information on this post is misleading…

  35. Jenza says:

Just wondering, to have this cap+ offer, do i have to have an account from Telstra or not?

  36. Alison says:

I have just activated a new prepaid $10 SIM STARTER KIT which (supposedly) included $10 worth of credit. I chose the cap+ plan and waited for the activation to take effect. After a couple of hours without using the mobile I received some SMSs telling me that my balance was less than $9.99 and then less than $0.01. Checking My Account from the mobile shows the cap plan with 0 balance. What happened to my $10?

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hi Alison, Please give 13 2200 a call and let them know the issue you are having. Brendan.

    • Sally says:

Yes the exact same thing happened to me 2 days ago when I got a new phone (HTC Wildfire) that came with a $10 starter kit! I asked a lady at a telstra shop when I went 2 get credit and she couldn’t tell me why and thought maybe it was because of the prepaid cap…

  37. Pat says:

Hi Rebekah, I have just converted my mobile from post paid to pre paid. Not as easy for older folk as it should be. Have been trying to recharge it for two day over the phone, but found that impossible to deal with. Have gone on line today and been able to do it much easier. The problem is that although I have recharged for long life for 12 months, and even though I paid $60 my account and receipt shows an expiry date of 6 months only. Why is this so???
    Pat.

    • Brendan O'Keefe [TEX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hi Pat, Hi , That sure sounds strange to me. If you can send me a contact number and account number, I’ll get someone from Telstra mobile to call you. Cheers, Brendan

  38. jay says:

does this offer work with the long life

  39. Bella says:

Hi. i hav $170 bonus credit and i was wondering if i can use that for my texts instead of the last $10 from my original $30 and if so, do i have to go somewhere to change it to that???

  40. John says:

Seems unusual that Pre-Pay customers can use their credit to call/SMS internationally whilst Account (Post-Pay) customers are not extended that convenience.

At present on the Post-Pay Next G caps, international SMS is not included in the cap allowance – and each SMS is charged at 50c.

Wondering why this is the case, given that generally the Post-Paid customer base is generally the most loyal.

  41. krangsquared says:

@John Because people on Pre-Paid can leave for a better deal.

For PostPaid + Contract = you’re stuck, Telstra are guaranteed to get your money – no incentive for them to treat you any better.

I’m being cynical, but that’s how Telstra has always behaved.

  42. danielle says:

I am now on the prepaid cap+ but recently it has now said under my credit balance *expire 31 dec 2010?! i have recharged only two days ago but the message still remains, also about a week and a half ago, it has removed the option to send credit me 2 U? is there any reason for this

  43. Jock Reby says:

Another question: if I want to use Voice2Text or whatever it’s called (i.e. when someone goes to voicemail, their message is transcribed and sent as a text message to my phone), is this possible on Prepaid?

    • Brendan O'Keefe [T-EX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hi Jock. Voice2Text is not available on Pre-Paid, however we do offer these customers Message2Text. This is a free service for those customers who select not to use voicemail on their Pre-Paid mobile phone, and means that short ten second messages can be translated and sent to you as an SMS. Brendan.

    • Jock Reby says:

Thanks Brendan, this is excellent! Another advantage of Telstra Prepaid over a cap plan, it seems.

    • Tegan says:

if you want the message to text thing, how do you set it up! And if I have voicemail, how do i disable it, so I can have the free message to text?

  44. Pooley says:

Yeh, that is typical of telstra. Never ever support existing customers just piss them off and offer better plans to entice other fools into their web.
Just try and get a better deal whilst on a plan and see what happens, they won’t even talk to you, no dollars for franchisees in changing plans only new ones.

  45. karen dolting says:

could you please give me best prepaid deal via my email have mobile and 3 kids who i sometimes send credit too its costing me a fortune and cant afford it anymore

  46. kai billett says:

when i recharge my $30 it tells me i have the 170 and 200 bonus but i cant use it, i use my $30 then it says insuffiecient credit??

    • Brendan O'Keefe [T-EX Customer Engagement Manager] says:

Hi Kia, Send me your mobile number via email not a comment here please so I can have someone look into it for you. I just sent you an email to your hotmail.

  47. Sally says:

Can anyone tell me if telstra has a prepaid service where you send an sms (free of charge) and then be sent an sms showing an update of ur balance? I have tried that #100# thing to check my balance but I’m not sure if it is updating itself. Thanks

  48. Dianne says:

I just went to bigpond on my mobile to recharge – and change my offer – to Cap+ and got this message: SOrry you have insufficnet credit to change your offer (Free to change offer) Please recharge and try again. HULLO? Gggrrrrrr Ive got rid of Bigpond – maybe its timne to dotch telstra mobile as well.

  49. Sophie says:

I bought one of the data plans for us loyal pre paid people….and all I got for my trouble was scammed by MBLOX three months in a row….with Telstra showing the love by automatically paying it on my behalf, even though the MBLOX scam is all over the internet (from 2008 until now). $300 worth of love….

Great business model .. don’t they get some sort of percentage from all the premium sms they put through? Even the scammers?

    Grrr.
