New video capability is quietly exciting

I’m a video producer working at Telstra creating a lot of the content for our Telstra YouTube channel and I love how far video technology has come in the last few years.

I’m quietly, but now publicly, excited about the new Apple iPhone. The new clever chip technology improves light sensitivity, and so this may be the convergent device I’ve always wanted. I have been taking the flipcam out on video shoots for sometime now and I’ve always wanted to marry my flipcam to my iPhone 3g.

The endless apps for video will surely follow; Steve Jobs previewed the first video editing app on the market. This app promises capabilities like simple editing, titling and mixing music and outputting directly to Youtube (Youtube recently added online editing capability on its site so maybe look out for a mobile version soon).

With the heavy duty A4 processor under its shiny new metal skin it promises to handle high-quality HD video in ways not yet seen on a phone. One can assume that a pro app of iMovie or Final Cut Pro will surely follow opening up capabilities for video producers and filmmakers everywhere.

We went out and shot this video on the Apple iPhone 4. What do you think?
