At the stroke of midnight …

Well its 11.30pm on Thursday night – a cold Melbourne evening, and the crowd is anxiously awaiting the clock to strke 12.
No its not the start of the annual Boxing Day Sales.
Its the eagerly awaited release of the latest phenomenon from the folks at Apple – the iPhone 4 IS ALMOST HERE.
Its quite amazing to watch.
The anticipation ….. the desire to be first ….. I can’t wait … and I am not even in lining up! Who would have thought that the guy who released the second generation IBM XT and AT personal computers, along with the Personal System/2 range, would now be swooning link a star-struck teenager at the thought of a new Apple product? Well I am proud of my transformation. My house is totally Mac these days.
Back to tonight’s event.
I managed to ask the Bourke Street Telstra Shop manager a few questions leading up to tonight’s launch.
- ML: When did you find out that your store was going to be amongst the first in Australia to get their hands on the iPhone 4?
“It was confirmed on Wednesday and we managed to get the store and staff ready for the big event in under two days.” - ML: How many people do you think will come through the store tonight?
“500 plus “ - ML: Any tips for people thinking of coming in?
“Get in early as they will go like hotcakes” - ML: Is this bigger than the iPhone 3GS launch?
“Tell you later”
And then he was off …
Meanwhile …
Ron was the first in line – been here since 3pm today.
This is his third iPhone – loves photography and must be keen to brave the
Melbourne weather to be here tonight.
Ron told me he loves photography and the iPhone 4 with its 5 megapixel camera will be great.His family does know where he is – and now so do you.
I asked Ron why he chose Telstra over every one else – his answer – coverage.

Matt, a web developer and is 4th in line – been here since 4pm.
Matt told me this is his 4th iPhone – he will be setting it up tonight – not going to wait for the morning.
Matt has chosen Telstra “because he wants a network that works”

Pretty dissapointing that you guys seem to moderate the comments so heavily! Pathetic really.
I upgraded my iphone 3G to an iphone 4 at a Telstra shop in Sydney CBD on Friday ~7am. How good it is, I am still waiting for the activation on Sunday morning. Holding on the new phone but cannot use. The customer service centre said they cannot help until Monday.
Except one thing people….DON’T go to a Telstra T Life Store because you are very liable to be ripped off -

Hi Jim, We’ve been made aware of a couple of instances where a store has handled iPhone 4 sales incorrectly by not offering all of the advertised plans. Be assured we’re following up with individual stores. In the meantime, please feel free to send us your details and we will look into this for you
Pity about the people getting done in Tassie because of cowboy TLife operators not upholding the published cap plans.
I have also been conned here with my new Iphone 4.
They didn’t offer me any plan except the MRO plan, not knowing much about the plans i just signed it, later getting home and seeing that i SHOULD have been able to pay $150 upfront.
Please sort this out for me.

I have also been court out by t-life like Jim, I was told I could not go on the same plan as showed on the telstra website.
