You cannot access the 3G internet connection, if your WiFi is connected (with the WiFi symbol displaying). If you move away from the range of the WiFi signal, the 3G symbol shall automatically display, & vice versa. If you would like to access 3G while in range of a WiFi connection, you will need to switch off the WiFi setting on the iPhone 4 (or turn off the internet connection, from where the WiFi signal is being sourced). I have noticed, that access to the 'My Data Usage', on the 'BigPond / My Account' portal, is denied, unless connected to 3G only. If all else fails, phone Telstra, & ask them; "does the APN setting need changing on my iPhone 4 please?" (I was unable to access the 3G internet connection, until Telstra changed my APN setting).

I could not connect to the internet via the Telstra 'NextG' network, using my iPhone 4. I purchased the phone from a Telstra shop, on 21 Dec 2010. On the top left hand corner of the screen display, are the 'signal bars', then the word 'Telstra'. Next to this, the '3G' symbol should appear (or another symbol that represents internet connection is available, such as '3G+', or 'E'). After two days of troubleshooting assistance from various sources (including Apple), my problem was thankfully resolved. I dialled 125111 from my landline, & requested the "operator", which guided me through to the mobile phone department. The wonderful lady said that she had to "add a product", which was an "APN setting". Then I was asked to "reset all settings" on the iPhone 4. Then the '3G' symbol appeared, and I now have internet access. At home, I access the iPhone 4's internet, via my BigPond ADSL Wi-Fi modem. Initially when the iPhone 4's 'Wi-Fi' is switched on, and the home network is detected, the phone asks for the 'Wi-Fi' password. Enter the 'WEP/WPA', which is one in the same combination of letters & numbers - the password is 'case sensitive' (this is displayed on the bottom of the BigPond 'Thomson TG782T' ADSL Wi-Fi modem). The iPhone 4's '3G' symbol will be replaced by the 'Wi-Fi' symbol, when connected to 'Wi-Fi'. This means that the iPhone 4's '3G' connection is unaccessabile. But when I leave/return home, the brilliant iPhone 4 automatically disconnects/reconnects to my home Wi-Fi.
