Arnold Aranez is one of Australia’s upcoming technology bloggers. In the last few years he has grown his blog from a very small following into one that now ranks among one of Australia’s best. Just last year his gadget review site MRGADGET.COM.AU scooped up the coveted Asia Pacific Nuffnang Best Geek Blog Award.
His tweets, blogs and opinions on technology are so respected we’re giving him an Apple iPhone 4 on Friday morning to put through its paces on the Telstra Next G network. He’ll be blogging from his blog site and tweeting on it and promises to be his usual impartial and honest self.
We thought this might be a good time to give you some insights into the man behind the gadgets. I asked him 5 questions and here’s what he said:
How old were you when you got your first gadget and what was it?
The earliest gadget that I can remember would have to be a toy like Lego. I loved creating buildings and vehicles from these multi-colored blocks. It would have to be around kindergarten time.
If you could invent a gadget what would it do?
I actually have a couple of gadget ideas in mind. I can’t really give specifics as I would like to create these on day but I can share that they involve ergonomics and data input on the move. One device that I can elaborate on, and I’m sure that many others have been attempting to invent over the years, is a time machine!
How do you approach doing reviews and what do you want your readers to get out of it?
There are three things I look for when I review gadgets : what’s good about the device? What’s bad about the device? and lastly what are ways that this device can be improved? I believe my readers appreciate this simple approach and thus helps them make more educated buying decisions.
What tips do you have for people who want to review products and blog?
For people who want to start reviewing gadgets, my simple advice is to START doing it! Look around you and I’m sure you already have gadgets that you enjoy using. You can even follow my three part gadget review workflow. If you want to get the big manufacturers to recognise you, you’ll have to write regularly, build a following and develop your brand on the web.
What are the big trends you’re seeing in the gadgetry world?
- Evolution of eBook readers
- Rise of tablet computers like the iPad
- Gesture based computing
- Wireless power
- Improved battery capacity / technology
- Faster data networks
