Win a Telstra T-Box

blog-t-box-giveaway-banner
UPDATE: There’s an important software update for the T-Box. Check it out here: T-Box introduces new free features including Apps and Weather.

First – my sad story

I am a reformed Luddite. Not because I have gotten better at technology wrangling but because the technology has gotten better. For years I simply refused to go near the programming function on my video player after the Unfortunate Taping of the Rugby World Cup Final Incident of 1991. Instead of watching Nick Farr-Jones lead my boys to victory and hold William Webb Ellis by the ears, I have a commemorative VHS of infomercials for skin cream and exercise equipment that conveniently folds up so you can put it in a cupboard and never use it again.

Telstra T-Box giveawayBehold the T-Box. Basically it gives you access to free-to-air TV channels and then the magic of BigPond TV delivers seven TV channels, movies on demand, TV series and access to Youtube videos. Of course, I can now watch the Wallabies triumphant final on my TV whenever I want. With so many things to watch, the clever little T-Box enables you to watch one TV show and record another. You can even program it to record an entire series (or sporting tournament). And there’s an on screen program guide so you always know what’s on. And it’s easy to use. Easy, peasey, campese (sob – he was player of the tournament in 1991).

Now – a happy story

I would like to give away 5 Telstra T-Box units so that you, my online friends, need never suffer a similar heart-sinking informercial recording fate – unless you love infomercials in which case the T-Box can prolly give you those too.

OH PLOP I wish I could enter. Yes Kristen I got PLOP from you. I’m loving the way Telstra is using the letter “T” as a brand recognition. Telephone = “T”-hub and now TV = “T”box. My goodness me I take a tone, this “T” is quality number one. If only I was having a cup of “T”, while eating “T” in front of my T-box. Its’ all to a “T”

  2. Well, as a Telstra Employee I can’t enter, but I am glad that you’ve stopped rioting and destroying laborsaving textile machinery in the belief that such machinery would diminish employment.

Best of luck for those who want to get T-Boxed!

Can I ask, is there any point in me submitting an entry?

We cannot get Digital TV here and we barely get an analog signal, even the best channel is like watching it through a snow storm.

Getting Bigpond TV might be good but will it work well on a NextG connection, we cannot get ADSL or Cable.

    Cheers

    GW

  4. David says:

    Hi gwmbox,

Yes, the Telstra T-Box will work with a BigPond NextG Connection.

    Thanks,
    - David

  5. Hi gwmbox

I have checked with some of our people who know about these things and it doesn’t seem that the T-Box is going to be suitable for your house – based on the issues you’ve described.

I can’t fix those but you are more than welcome to enter and if you win you could give the T-Box to someone as a gift. Not sure how that will change things at your house (I’m referring here to the criteria for entry) other than provide the joy of giving.

    hello telstra
i have the t-box and so far i love it. its has a few unusual glitches but overall its fantastic.

One thing that would be great in a future software update would be the option to change the settings for the auto turn-off function.

it is great that you give options to have it turn off at various intervals but could you have one to leave it on at all times as it can get quite annoying having to switch it on everyday considering that can take 20-3 minutes .

An option for that would be super!!!

looking forward to HD movies and other new functions on this device … :)

    thanks

  7. Jack says:

That right why don’t you all buy a T BOX and contribute further to an already congested network. What a mistake this is in marketing.

    Buy a book!
    Go to a video store!
Get out and kick the footy around!

I have a T-Box and with excitement started to watch I would have hoped to be a very enjoyable experience. I was soon to be disappointed, the remote / T-Box freezes up, some seconds later ( a life time when wish for something to happen ) it changes, the EPG is not full of content, bigpond content and FTA tv is not fully displayed, makes it hard to program / record. Downloaded first movie, excellent, second movie started to watch for 20 mins, it then stopped, so started to watch again only to be informed no HDCP? refer to manual, i referred to manual and then informed by manual to call bigpond, on a sunday afternoon, I called, was answered, I explained the issue, and then was informed that this issue of no HDCP was a national issue, a software solution was being sought however no resolution and unknown when.
The thing is though the T-Box is quite good, despite the issues that it can, may display.
I can only hope that a resolve for these issues are forthcoming.
    Thanks

I bought the T box and overall not a bad product but suffers from frustrating “freezeups” hope this will be rectified in future software updates.

  10. David says:

Overall not bad, has quite a few glitches which require resets, one major problem is tv tuner is of very poor quality in the sense that framerate is lagging quite some what. For free to air I always revert back to my built in hd tuner in my tv for much better quality picture. And yes I am using HDMI cable.

  11. David says:

One More thing Bigpond Movies need weekly rentals not 2 days which is quite pathetic.

  12. Hi Guys, any news on who the lucky buggers who won this one are?

  13. Hi Paul

We will be contacting the winners on Wednesday – so fingers crossed for a bit longer.

    Cheers

    Kristen

  14. Michael says:

Have the winners been notified as yet?

  15. Pranesh PAL says:

I wish I could have won the T-Box. So at least I would have had one . I bought one and it froze up in 2 days. Took it to the Telstra shop in chermside brisbane. They refused to replace it and sent it away for testing/repairs. Haven’t heard back from them – 11 days now. Worst service I have ever come across. Why is Telstra service so crap and dispute resolution non existent? I think Telstra should stick to laying copper and fibre. They are no good at selling and servicing the consumer electronic market. Telstra needs to hire someone who knows the retail market and has some idea of customer service.

  17. Ray Johnson says:

Are there any possibilities that the T-Box can have twin tuners ie, record two channels at the same time and be able to watch another pre recorded programme at the same time.
    Ray.
