The first time you enter Tribe you need to enter your Facebook, Twitter or MySpace username and password. Then each time you access Tribe you’ll see a summary of your social networks and can click through to comment, look at photos, view your friends’ profiles, read messages and more. And all without the data used in Australia counting towards your data allowance.

Is there any way to make Tribe “text only” for both facebook and twitter?
Previous times I have used this, I have been charged for doing so and all I am doing is updating my statuses and viewing those of my friends…
Not asking for any refunds or anything, I’m just curious.

Wondering why tribe will not update statuses
i can update from the phone and it shows up on the computer version of facebook but not on the phone.
Curious why Telstra claims Facebook on the phone when it is really just a light version of facebook – can’t send free messages – many of the features are not available.
It’s like the internet wayback machine, but for social networking. Great for checking out what people were doing 6 days ago. Not really fixed imo
can i check my \tribe \ on a regular computer ??? or only on mobile ???
Is there anyway I can stop getting updates on my mobile, don’t need them when I am home as I have my computer on!!

Hi Faeryone, Here’s how you do it. You simply SMS the word STOP to 87423
You can unsubscribe to SMS alerts from Tribe by replying with STOP. Or just send a new message with STOP to 87423 (TRIBE).
You can also turn them off by going to the Tribe site, then going into “Edit Settings” then “Alerts for SMS Notifications” then click Disable. Or you can change the time period to only morning or afternoon.
I also want to stop the alerts … when I text stop it just updates my FB status to ‘stop’ … what is the actual tribe website?? i’ve tried a couple of the links they don’t work??

Wondering why Telstra promotes free facebook via tribe when it is only sample, a Facebook Lite with minimal features. It is handy to check status/add comments but with so many features not available, or not free, they should promote it more clearly.
Tribe is ok, but needs pokes, needs more updates, like on “places” or “pages” and needs to show who “likes” what, and needs to be able to search and add friends, and needs notifications of likes and comments without subscribing via sms
It’s great that it is free, and Im fine with not seeing who liked my status etc. although i’d prefer if it was included. No the thing that makes tribe completely useless is that (at least on my phone) I can only see the last message received in private msg threads, messaging makes up probably 60% of my fb interactions so without it I don’t really find facebook interesting
I liked tribe but I’m having issues getting tribe to sign into twitter. I’ve had no problems with facebook and myspace. Any ideas?
I am a telstra pre paid user with an unlocked iPhone 4. For about the first month I used tribe and 0.Facebook and was getting charged nothing, which was great! Now though after I use one of the two, I am getting charged between 2 cents and 15 cents. It may not sound like much but I dint get much money each month on my pre paid so tribe is really eating at my credit.

i cant sign into telstras tribe website i have a lg craze phone the message i get it says my email and password are not correct and my session has timed out any ideas
@mark your session times out occasionally as a security measure. Please re-enter your email and password.
The other reason it may be asking again is if you have recently changed your password online. Make sure you re-enter the correct password. Which Social network is this for? Facebook, Myspace or Twitter?
I can’t stop sms notifications
SMS stop to 87423 just updates my facebook status to “Stop”

Hi Vee Bee, You can stop SMS notification by going into Tribe (via BigPond portal or direct via http://tribe.telstra.com , then:
Edit Settings > Alerts for SMS Notifications then select “Disable” and click the “Save” button
i have the same problem … tried the link posted by brendon … it doesn’t work
i was charged 25c to reply STOP to get those stupid messages to stop coming! i deactivated the sms notifications and they still kept coming, so it was my only choice. i dont use tribe anymore because i found it useless.
im getting an error message saying my session has timed out im using a lg craze ive recently changed my password as well any ideas thanks
Tribe is great when ur away from home.
I thought so too last year until I got through my $30 recharge in just a few days. No way would I use it again.
I have tribe on my phone and when i go into it there r question marks everywhere beside names, status updates etc they r everywhere. Help anyone cheers

The team have created a fix for this problem. I have tested it on a Telstra Smart Touch I have hear and it’s working normally again. Can you check your phone to see if Tribe is back to normal?

I hav a Telstra Smart Touch it was workin fine a week ago now I hav blue ? marks ova the page next to new status, my friends, my wall, my albums etc i dont even hav the Tribe logo anymore it says tribe in blue with a ? ova the top of it

I have recently switched to the simplicity offer, and when accessing tribe have been charged 10c at times, the same for 0.facebook.com even if not viewing photos. I decided to live with it while on the 1c offer but now more of my credit is disappearing as it’s 10c per mb in 1 mb blocks on Simplicity which I’m now on. I have posted here before but the issue still occurs. I have also called several times on 1258880 where the operator has simply said I MUST be looking at photos and I could not speak to the supervisor. It’s not a large amount of money, but it’s money that I shouldn’t have to pay for a service advertised as being free. I would be very appreciative if the issue could please be resolved for me!

Hi I just got a new samsung galaxy s2 given to me by mum as a present and she bought it at a dick smith store outright – I am trying to find out how I can obtain a tribe icon for my new phone as I enjoy using tribe as it is very user friendly for myself – but so far between the local telstra store telling me it was avialable in the market for android which I might add it is not available at all then when I rang technical support they said it was available in samsung apps and guess what it is not there either it is proving very hard to obtain – which is wrong since I have a telstra prepaid number and have had for over 10 years it should really not be that hard at all

Rae-Marie, If the Tribe icon isn’t on the desktop you can re-add it by doing the following:
- anywhere on clear section of the phone desktop (where there aren’t any shortcuts or widgets), press and hold until you get the “Add to home screen” popup
- click “Shortcuts” then scroll down and click “Telstra My Place”
- scroll down and select “Tribe” and it will drop the icon onto the desktop!
Can someone tell me how to get rid of this Tribe garbage off of my phone? All is does is eat credit. I recharge my phone one day, the next day there is no credit left????????? Not impressed to say the least! Is Testra going to refund my money with their billon $ profits?

Tribe only sends out notifications at most every 4 hours.

Ive been using Tribe for a while but its been saying webpage not available and its really annoying when im talking to people, so i tryed to fix it by removing Tribe from my phone and re-loading it ,it won’t let me re-load it on, the only way i can access Tribe is via bigpond, can anyone help me please?? The best way to contact Telstra for a service/product query is to click onto the ‘Ask the Crowd’ or go to our 24/7 Facebook page on the top right hand side of our blog where you’ll be directly linked to one of our online customer support consultants. This is the most efficient way to get someone to look into your account.
Am not happy with the upload picture feature. I have MMS’d 5 times today and not 1 of my pictures has appeared on my FB wall. Each MMS has been successfully sent, so where are they? Not happy.

My sincere apologies. We discovered the MMS service had stopped working earlier this week and have been working on a fix.
Unfortunately I haven’t got a date for when it will be fixed yet. In the meantime, the best I can suggest is if you need to upload photos to Facebook only, then you can MMS to an email address that is unique to your Facebook account (see here for details: https://www.facebook.com/help?faq=210153612350847).
I’ll update as soon as we have a fix.

Brendan, thats not what I have asked. I have set my subscriptions already.
What I asked is how to you logout of Tribe(facebook). Also my groups don’t appear on my homepage, any reason why?? I cannot find a logout icon anywhere, so its open to hacking.

There is no logout button – the Tribe site automatically detects who you are based on your mobile phone and logs you in.
This is similar to how many other apps and services work (e.g. email on most phones and the Facebook app itself log you in automatically). To avoid someone gaining access to your Facebook – or your contacts or other personal information on your phone – we recommend enabling a pin code lock at the phone level.
I’m sorry Tribe doesn’t have some of the features you are looking for such as groups or deleting messages. Tribe seeks to offer the most frequently used functions; we are considering new features for future releases.
In order to “logout” the only other option for you is to go to “Add/Remove Social Networks” and remove all the networks you have added. If you do that successfully you should find yourself back at the login screen.

Curious why the tribe version of facebook gives multiple copies of messages to the inbox on the telstra anroid phone and seems to charge a fairly hefty fee for using tribe. Really frustrating that you have to load messages twice before progressing to the next page. When will there be an upgrade of tribe to make it more user friendly?

The only reason I am trying out tribe with zero dot facebook is that I have been getting Data charges for using free facebook, and yes before you ask that is the only site I use on my mobile and never go off it as explained on several occasions now. It says free for Telstra users at the top of the screen. And yes you guessed it Data charges appeared on my history today yet again and now that was using tribe as directed by Telstra. I feel like I am wasting my time with Telstra and nothing is being done to stop Data charges appearing on my prepaid history. Well as soon as Optus increase their coverage I for one will be departing Telstra. Just sick and tired of being charged for using Data when I log onto free facebook. It says free access on Telstra network. Cannot be any clearer. Its not a lot of cost but over time it builds up. ANd I hate talking to the call centres as you just cannot understand the people you speak to. Live chat seemed to be the only way of clear understanding solving problems. Just would like Telstra to get it right.

Why did you use a comma after the words ‘access’ and ‘sites?’
Sorry accessing Face Book through Tribes adds another layer of complex so I don’t bother. I get push updates via 3G Internet access from Face Book why on earth would I want SMS notifications too. Telstra has to re-engineer this if it going to catch on. Telstra 24/7 app is very useful after all.

Hi trube is great, but i cant access my messages through it. I use to be ablt to which is weird but all of a sudden its saying’ error connecting to community, try again later” or something like that and i try it over and over and nothing seems to change. Is there anyway I can fix this? I tried logging on using my other account for tribe to see if i could access my mssgs and it works, it’s just my account that it won’t let me. Any suggestions?
