T-Hub: a home phone revolution!

blog_T-Hub-banner
UPDATE SEPT 13. Hi Everyone. There is a new blog on the T-Hub with some helpful information here.

If you’ve ever dreamt of having a more organised household, your time has come…

Get ready to reclaim your kitchen bench and ditch your daggy old calendar, messy post-it notes and old-school rolodex.

Australia – you’re about to experience a home phone revolution.

Let me introduce you to the Telstra T-Hub™ – a new generation of home phone that works like a mobile phone by combining the features of telephony, information, organisation and entertainment.

Designed to be the hub of your household, this new home phone features a large, 18-centimetre touch screen that makes phone calls and text messages easy. Plus, with the T-Hub™  you can visit a wide range of Internet sites, play music and Australian radio stations via Internet Radio and view the latest news, sport and weather.

My family and I have been test-driving the T-Hub for a few weeks and we absolutely love being able to snack on information online, without having to start up our computer.

A few weeks back my husband mentioned he’d heard there had been an earthquake in California. I was making a coffee in the kitchen at the time, so I clicked on the BigPond News icon on my T-Hub, to get more information. We spotted the story almost instantly and within a minute or so we were watching a video wrap-up of what had happened.

T-Hub also has mobile phone-like applications and features such as one-touch access to Yellow or White Pages, as well as popular internet sites such as Facebook® and YouTube®. We’ve found this really handy, as it’s meant we don’t have to boot up our computer when we want to check or update our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Making a phone call on the T-Hub is also simple with an easy to search address book and click-to-call. At home our T-Hub sits on the kitchen bench and we’ve become big fans of using the speakerphone to call friends and family while whipping up dinner. Our little boy has really enjoyed being able to join in on conversations to the grandparents – it’s the perfect height for a 9 year old to talk straight into when it’s on the kitchen bench!

T-Hub from Telstra
It functions as a beautiful digital photo frame as well. All of our favourite photos come up as the screen saver when the tablet is idle and it’s great to have them as such a focal point in the home. Plus, at $299*  it offers amazing capability and value. It is also available on a 24 month payment option or as part of our Home Bundles.

Here at Telstra, we’ve invested a lot of time to develop this product especially for the Australian market, which has involved speaking to more than 1,500 Australians and more than 1,000 hours of research. We know what Australians want and need on a touch screen home phone, and I believe we’ve really hit the mark with the new T-Hub.

But don’t just take my word for it – head into a T-life™ store, give it a go and let me know what you think.  Update: You can now buy online at the Telstra online shop.

*Min cost for the T-Hub, plus HomeLine and BigPond broadband plan is $1029.80 plus usage (based on HomeLine Budget and BigPond Turbo ADSL 2GB plans over 12 months).

Must admit I do like the T-hub and have had, nor have, any issues with it.
As for the handsets I agree they are pretty fussy to use and I wish the default button to press in the middle was ‘Contacts’ and not ‘Voicemail’.
There are so many steps to finally get to your contact’s number it’s a real obstacle course.

Thank you all you saved me a lot of stress.
i wont be getting one another cheap telstra product.

  3. Ron says:

Well if it is like the original T Hub it’s rubbish
My T Hub never worked properly It just froze by looking at it
Why would this one be any better, you need a better customer service and accept that the T hub was faulty and give customers a full refund
I would stay well clear of another T Hub

  4. Stephen says:

I agree with Ron. The original T-hub is a piece of rubbish. It freezes constantly and battery life if lousy. The handsets are cheap and nasty.

I have been totally disappointed with my T-Hub and rank it amongst the worst devices I have ever purchased.

The T-Hub2 would have to be a significant improvement upon the first one, particularly givlen the higher cost.

If Telstra wanted to recover some credibility with T-Hub 1 customers they would offer a deal to return these boat anchors to upgrade to the supposedly better T-Hub2 at a respectably discounted price.

  5. jo says:

why wont my t-hub connect to the internet?

    • Gigi [Telstra Staff] says:

      Hi Jo,

That’s no good. Without more info I can’t really tell… are you able to call the Telstra T-Hub support on 1300 136 841? They’ll be able to sort something out :)

  6. Andrew says:

Why can’t I connect my t-hub to a Bluetooth device (a2dp) and stream audio into the base speakers when unit is in the cradle? The Bluetooth device appears in the last of connected devices and have selected ‘media’ under options….

    • Andrew says:

      T hub 2

    • Ian [Telstra Community Manager] says:

      Hey Andrew,
I’m not sure how to do that. If you contact the T-Hub support team on 1300 136 841 they should be able to answer that.
