Telstra today announced that it will offer dedicated iPad price plans from the end of May in Australia.
The iPad lets users browse the web, read and send email, enjoy and share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, read ebooks and much more, all using iPad’s revolutionary Multi-Touch user interface. For more information about iPad please visit http://www.apple.com/au/ipad
What are your thoughts about the iPad?

i agree with nathan and think that they should have an unlimited data plan for around fifty dollars. i work at a school and if we could have unlimited data for the kids it would be great. we could replace all the netbooks with ipad 3g’s using Telstra ‘unlimited’ (hopefully) 3g. this would be great for the kids research adn they can make keynote presentations. i cant wait
As Greg mentioned, while the plan pricing is more generous than in the past (thank you), a longer expiry would be greatly appreciated. May I suggest introducing something like a “Longer Life” offer similar to what you have with your Prepaid Plans (http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/latestoffers/), but without crippling the data allowance, I believe this would be appreciated by a large number of customers.
I just hope they offer something comparable for iPhones. I want to get one and will use it 99% of the time for data with only the odd call or two – and Telstra’s plans are really, really unattractive if that’s what you want to do
is it just me or is it weird when you let your direct competition (optus)offer much better prices and similar service i think needs kick up the arse
Surely in this day and age we can align our data with global pricing, I travel a lot and am amazed at the data plans in the US and Uk, telstra says it spent a lot on Next G, and it is a good coverage, but it is it really worth so much more? I would think that we would all pay 69 a month for unlimited data, there will always be the few who abuse ‘unlimited’ plans, but a fair use poilcy would be ok to add. most just want reliable fast mobile internet with out concerns over going over plans.
Ipad or not, it should be across the board, encompassing mobile, wireless usb cards and the ipad/iphone. Get with it Telstra – play fair
yeah unlimited data. AT&T can to it, and for a ripper price so why not telstra. UNLIMITED DATA (and not for hundreds of dollars)
UNLIMITED DATA
WE WANT UNLIMITED DATA
UNLIMITED DATA
UNLIMITED DATA
UNLIMITED DATA
AGREED!
I agree with nathan…
It’s really hard to use more than 3GB just with web browsing etc. I say a $50 unlimited plan would be a waste of money compared to that $30 3GB plan.
How come all the Telstra Staff In the Townsville T-life stores are completely clueless when asked about micro sim cards and why don’t they have any stock ?? Train your staff better Telstra and make sure stock is available everywhere not just the capital cities !
It looks like Vodafone has been reading these comments and introduced plans in line with what I suggested about extended life times:
$100 – 6 gb – 180 days expiry
$150 – 12 gb – 365 days expiry
Usage goes up and down from month to month depending on travel and other factors, but I’d be happy to sign up for longer expiry data plans.
Alternatively, why can’t we just pool data plans across all the devices that we have on our business plan – eg two iPhones and an iPad all sharing from the same data allowance.
As a Telstra tLife employee I can tell you that we Have invested plenty of time in training for the upcoming ipad launch as far as I’m aware there have been plenty of delays in first the pads release date and plan pricing …. The micro sims are still in production and are going to be available to most stores before launch day although some of the licence stores are still unavailable to even order them yet, even the tlife priority stores in some areas … As the plans are on prepaid not contract I am surprised on the generous pricing as it works out at about half price of the data pricing for the prepaid USB sticks …
Compared to my Telstra NextG Pre-Paid Mobile (modem-only) account, these new iPad plans are much better value:
generic NextG: 6GB = $100
iPad NextG: 6GB = $60 (& 12GB = $100)
But why? Is not the usage patterns of a laptop user & iPad use quite similar? Rich-media downloads & streaming, email, web-browsing, social media? But the discrepancy is vast.
And why did the recent price-drops on ‘generic’ Pre-Paid NextG data only benefit the lower plans, not the 6GB=$100 plan (for example)?
And while I’m at it, when the delivery medium is the same NextG 3G network for both a phone/iPhone, iPad, & 3G USB modem, why isn’t data just data, that can be shared across all devices, be it pre- or post-paid? This really twists my knickers.
What Andy said, but without the knickers.
