Painting up a social storm

What do you get when you mix Whereis.com, social media, hundreds of youth opinion leaders, cans of paint, a blank canvas and a bar? One Amazing Party … and we have the video to prove it …
The Whereis.com Paint Party is one high-energy event that those lucky enough to be there probably won’t forget for a long time yet. Held in Melbourne’s very cool CBD bar 1000 Pound Bend on Monday, 25 January, the Whereis.com Paint Party hosted more than 400 ‘youth opinion leaders’ (bloggers, trend setters …) who danced their designer footwear off and painted up a storm. Watch the video below …
How did they do it?
In a savvy use of social media, the Whereis.com Paint Party sent out a cryptic invite to a select guest list using Facebook and email. All RSVPs were then sent paint-splattered parcels containing a white protective suit, plus the time and date of the party; but no location. Building the drama, a Whereis.com map pinpointing the venue was released to guests only on the day of the party via email, mobile and Facebook.
Then, for one night only 1000 Pound Bend was turned into an enormous 3D canvas that party-goers were invited to paint. With a booming soundtrack and sponsored bar (thanks to Nelson Beer, Canadian Club and co-sponsors Fosters, Nutrient Water and Chupa Chups) to loosen up creative urges, the venue was splashed and splattered into a stunning work of art, which you can probably tell from the photos.
Rewards for Whereis.com include giving guests an exciting experience of its product, and good reason to advocate it. The hundreds of people at the event are sure to tell their friends via Facebook, blogs or, the old-fashioned way, over a barbecue, of the amazing Whereis.com Paint Party they went to, plus share the photos and video.
Job well done!
