New take on TV

Helen Razer has always been controversial, outspoken, opinionated and incredibly articulate, and now she’s bringing all of those qualities – and more – to Citysearch with her TV blog Welcome to My Box. Become a fan.
Helen Razer is known for her radio gig on Triple J with Mikey Robins during the 1990s, and has also had a go on commercial radio, co-hosting the Ladies Lounge with comedian Judith Lucy, and more recently on ABC 774′s arts program – well, until she was ‘replaced’ after an on-air stoush with actor Steven Berkoff. She also has a clutch of published books under her belt, and writes for The Age and The Big Issue. Razer’s latest project is her TV blog Welcome to My Box on Citysearch.

The TV Guide has always been one of Citysearch’s most visited pages and, after a major redesign late last year, Managing Editor Cath Pope wanted to capitalise on this in 2010. Pope saw a whole lot of potential with ‘celebrity’ blogger Razer writing for Citysearch.
“Helen is a fearless writer and astute media commentator – like her or loathe her, you have to admit, she always has a point,” says Pope.
And if the page view results are anything to go by (more than 2000 in a short space of time), Welcome to My Box is already a great success. Razer has also generated a lot of user feedback, too. Her debut American Idol article received 20 user comments on the day it first appeared, while her second article, 7PM Project, prompted a lively discussion and debate drawing 49 comments from users. Razer herself has been answering the posted comments and sparking further conversations (and even a bit of mudslinging). Pope is all for that.
“That’s the great thing about hard-core bloggers – they can’t help but continue the conversation and like nothing better than weighing in on the ongoing commentary, which of course, results in even more commentary – best of all, it’s happening on Citysearch and Facebook at the same time!”
Users can leave comments on Citysearch via their Facebook profile, and Razer’s columns have been promoted on both Twitter and Facebook, again generating quite a bit of comment from Facebook users. Citysearch has created a Facebook fan page for Helen Razer, where her blogs are posted every week. She already has 85 fans.
Pope thinks this is a great example of how embracing Facebook and Twitter brings more traffic to Citysearch, and sees this as an important part in its future.
“It’s been a great exercise in the value of powerful and dynamic content and our need to tap into the zeitgeist of ‘the now’. Stay tuned for more specialist bloggers on the way who will bring their considerable opinions to Citysearch.”
Helen Razer’s weekly TV blog, Welcome to My Box, appears on Citysearch’s TV Guide every Wednesday. Check out Razer’s latest column, House sells out, and become one of her Facebook fans.

I love Helen and had no idea she was blogging over on Citysearch, thanks for letting me know where I can catch her acerbic wit aimed squarely at the big guns on TV. This one is going ‘straight to the RSS room’.
