David Thodey talks about some of the big issues

blog_fibreoptics

David Thodey, Telstra CEO gave an interesting speech today. In particular, the bit that caught my interest was:

Technology is not a panacea.

By themselves, new technologies achieve nothing.  What makes a difference is how those new technologies are applied.  Our Next G mobile network, for example, may be the fastest and largest wireless broadband network in the country, but that alone is not innovation.  What Next G has done – as you just heard from my examples – is provide a platform for innovation

.. and that innovation is boosting productivity, improving healthcare and helping us understand climate change.

There’s much more in there that might be of interest too.

Here is the full speech:

  1. Greg Duggan says:

Much innovation (and productivity) is currently being held up by wireless speed.

The Iphone internet tethering bug has stopped development of many automated field work systems. After the purchase of many Iphones for our organisation when the system was running. It’s egg on our faces whan buinsess cases are presented resulting in a failure (to deliver) when a change in policy or inability to deliver the tethering service has halted our work processes.

Our organisation will need to look to other providers that can provide the tethering service.
